Honda NX500 E-Clutch Launched In India at Rs 7.44 Lakh

Honda has quietly added a new twist to the NX500 adventure tourer in India. The motorcycle now comes with Honda’s E-Clutch technology. The new variant has been launched at Rs 7.44 lakh, ex-showroom. With this, clutch-free gear shifting has been introduced in the middleweight ADV segment. The launch has also placed the NX500 closer to rivals like the Kawasaki Versys 650 in terms of pricing and touring appeal.

What Makes The E-Clutch Special?

Honda’s E-Clutch system has been designed for easier riding in traffic and touring conditions. Gear shifts can now be made without pulling the clutch lever. The system uses electronic actuators to manage clutch operation automatically. Smooth take-offs and stops are also handled by the system itself. Interestingly, manual control has not been removed completely. Riders can still use the clutch lever whenever needed. This setup may help new riders feel more confident in city riding conditions. Long-distance riders may also appreciate reduced fatigue during heavy traffic.

Highlight Points

  • Honda NX500 E-Clutch launched at Rs 7.44 lakh
  • Clutch-free gear shifting has been introduced
  • Weight has increased by 3kg with the new system
  • Engine and overall design remain unchanged
  • Rivals include the Kawasaki Versys 650

Same Motorcycle, New Experience

Mechanically, the NX500 remains unchanged. The same 471cc parallel-twin engine continues duty. Power output stands at 47hp at 8,500rpm. Torque output is rated at 43Nm at 6,500rpm. A six-speed gearbox has been retained. Only the clutch setup has been revised for the E-Clutch system. The added hardware has increased overall weight slightly. The motorcycle now weighs 199kg.

Hardware And Features Stay Familiar

Honda has continued with the same adventure-focused setup. The NX500 still gets upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock. A 19-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel setup has been carried forward. Braking duties are handled by dual-channel ABS equipped twin 296mm front discs are paired with Nissin radial calipers. A 240mm rear disc setup has also been retained. Feature additions remain limited on the NX500. A 5-inch TFT display continues to be offered. Switchable traction control is available as standard. However, riding modes are still missing. Even the throttle setup continues to be cable-operated. That may disappoint some buyers at this price point.

Honda’s Bigger Plan With E-Clutch

Honda had earlier introduced E-Clutch technology on the Honda CB650R and Honda CBR650R. Interestingly, those motorcycles were sold out quickly in India. That response may have encouraged Honda to expand the technology further. The NX500 now becomes one of the most practical motorcycles to receive this system. Touring comfort may improve noticeably with this setup

Honda seems to be testing a new direction for everyday motorcycling in India. The NX500 E-Clutch may not look different outside. But the riding experience could feel very different on the road. For riders spending hours in traffic or on highways, that may matter more.
