Royal Enfield Has Firmly Crossed Into Electric Territory…

For 120 years, Royal Enfield has been synonymous with one thing the thump of a single-cylinder engine, the smell of petrol and the unhurried rhythm of riding, that no other motorcycle brand quite replicates. The idea of a silent Royal Enfield has always felt like a contradiction. And yet, in Bengaluru, customer deliveries of the Royal Enfield Flying Flea C6 have officially begun. India’s most iconic motorcycle brand has entered the electric era with a dedicated sub-brand, a motorcycle developed entirely in-house, over 45 patent applications and an award-winning design inspired by a piece of wartime history. This is Royal Enfield’s electric future, starting now.

The Name and the Heritage Behind It

The Flying Flea nameplate is not an invention for the electric age. The original Flying Flea was a lightweight Royal Enfield motorcycle used by British paratroopers during the Second World War dropped behind enemy lines in specially designed containers and used for rapid communication and movement. It was small, it was practical and it carried the Royal Enfield badge into one of history’s most demanding environments. The new C6 draws directly from that legacy retro-inspired design elements meeting thoroughly modern electric vehicle technology. Royal Enfield describes it as a “city+” motorcycle built for urban agility without abandoning the character that defines the brand.

The motorcycle was developed entirely in-house at Flying Flea’s dedicated technology centre by a team of over 200 engineers across India and the United Kingdom. The result has already earned international recognition the Flying Flea C6 received the Red Dot Award 2025 in the Design Concept category.

The Electric Powertrain Numbers That Mean Business

A 3.91kWh lithium-ion battery pack sits at the heart of the C6. The electric motor produces 15.4kW approximately 21bhp and 60Nm of motor torque. Royal Enfield claims the powertrain generates more than 400Nm of wheel torque a figure made possible by the mechanical advantage of electric motor delivery. The motorcycle weighs just 124kg. The combination of that torque figure and that kerb weight makes for brisk, confident acceleration in everyday riding. Claimed top speed stands at 115kmph adequate for urban and semi-urban use where the motorcycle is primarily intended to operate. IDC-rated range is claimed at 154km though real-world figures, as with all electric vehicles, will vary based on riding style and conditions.

Charging Practical for Daily Use

The charging setup on the Royal Enfield Flying Flea C6 has been designed with everyday usability in mind. Three charging modes are available Rapid, Standard and Trickle all compatible with a conventional 16A socket. Charging from 20 to 80 per cent takes just over an hour. A full charge takes just over two hours. These are not exceptional figures by the standards of larger battery packs but for a city-focused motorcycle with a 3.91kWh battery, they are genuinely practical for overnight home charging or a mid-day top-up at an office socket.

Design and Engineering Where the C6 Stands Apart

The engineering choices on the C6 reflect a team that was not constrained by convention. The most striking is the Girder fork setup a forged aluminium front suspension design that is a modern interpretation of a classic pre-war configuration rarely seen on contemporary motorcycles. It gives the C6 a front end unlike anything else currently available in the Indian market. An articulating front mudguard, removable pillion seat and adjustable footpegs add further individuality. The joystick-controlled round TFT touchscreen serves as the command centre. A rotary mode selector handles riding mode changes. It all feels considered as though every detail has been thought about rather than borrowed from elsewhere.

Technology Connected, Assisted and Always On

The technology package on the C6 is comprehensive for its price bracket. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 4G connectivity are all built in. “Remote vehicle monitoring and over-the-air software updates are supported. Lean-sensitive ABS, traction control and cruise control are part of the rider aids package. Voice assistance, live location sharing and tip-over alerts add further layers of functionality. The motorcycle generates 24×7 roadside assistance as standard for every owner a meaningful commitment for a brand launching its first electric product into an ecosystem that is still developing.

Pricing, Colour Options and the BaaS Model

The Royal Enfield Flying Flea C6 is priced at Rs 2.79 lakh, ex-showroom. “Two colour options are available Storm Black and Flea Green“. For buyers who want to reduce the upfront cost, a Battery-as-a-Service model is available lowering the purchase price to Rs 1.99 lakh with the battery leased separately. That pricing strategy brings the C6 into consideration for a wider range of buyers who might hesitate at the full price but are comfortable with a subscription-style battery arrangement.

The Service Network Hub and Spoke Across Bengaluru

Flying Flea has established a dedicated service ecosystem in Bengaluru ahead of the delivery launch. A central service hub in BTM Layout handles specialised work. Multiple spoke centres across the city manage routine maintenance. The model also leverages Royal Enfield’s existing retail network with a shop-in-shop format operating within current Royal Enfield dealerships and service centres. That inherited infrastructure is one of the most significant advantages Flying Flea carries over standalone EV startups. Royal Enfield has spent decades building one of the most trusted service networks in Indian motorcycling. Flying Flea is plugging directly into it.

What Comes Next City by City

Deliveries are currently limited to Bengaluru as part of a phased city-by-city rollout strategy. Other cities are expected to follow in sequence. Exports have also been indicated as an important future focus though specific markets and timelines have not yet been confirmed. What is clear is that Royal Enfield is not treating this as a soft launch or a market test. The infrastructure, the technology, the design depth and the patent portfolio all point to a brand that has committed seriously to its electric future. The Flying Flea C6 is the beginning of that story not a chapter in itself.
