Ferrari Luce Electric Car Unveiled And the World Has a Lot to Say

Ferrari has done something nobody expected. The Ferrari Luce electric car has been officially revealed to the world. Priced at £474,320, it is the Italian brand’s first fully electric vehicle ever. And yes people have opinions. Very strong ones.

Ferrari Luce Electric Car

Ferrari Luce Electric Car Is Unlike Any Ferrari Before It

The Luce does not look like a typical Ferrari. It is a five-seater, also a first for the brand. Former Apple design chief Sir Jony Ive’s agency LoveFrom collaborated on the design. The result is striking, polarising and deeply unlike anything Maranello has produced before. Ferrari chief executive Benedetto Vigna confirmed the car took nearly five years to develop.

5 Big Highlights of the Ferrari Luce Electric Car

1. Priced at £474,320 — The Luce is positioned firmly in ultra-luxury EV territory.

2. One electric motor per wheel — All four motors are Ferrari-made and developed entirely in-house.

3. 0 to 60mph in 2.5 seconds — Supercar performance has not been compromised despite the EV switch.

4. Fully in-house components — Every part is made by Ferrari to protect long-term resale value.

5. Ferrari’s first five-seater — The Luce breaks yet another long-standing Ferrari tradition.

Ferrari Luce Electric Car Took Half a Decade to Build

The Ferrari Luce electric car was announced in Rome by CEO Benedetto Vigna. Luce means “light” in Italian a fitting name for Ferrari’s boldest new direction. The car runs on four Ferrari-made electric motors, one on each wheel. A 0-100mph sprint of around 2.5 seconds keeps it firmly in supercar territory Quad electric motors produce a total of 1050hp, 990Nm 310kph top-speed and 530km range. Every single component is produced in-house by Ferrari. This ensures the car can be serviced and repaired well into the future. That decision is also aimed at protecting the Luce’s long-term resale value for buyers.

The Internet is Divided, very Divided

Social media reactions to the Ferrari Luce electric car have been sharp and split. One user on X wrote that Ferrari had killed their brand just like Jaguar did. Another called it straight to the junkyard trash. But not everyone agreed with that view. One post described it as an absolute masterclass in design and a total game changer. Ferrari’s chief design officer Flavio Manzoni has acknowledged the design is polarising. He believes critics are simply part of the innovation process. He also expects people to appreciate the Luce more in the months ahead.

Ferrari is Staying Petrol and Hybrid Too. Not Going All-In on EVs

The Ferrari Luce electric car is not replacing the rest of the lineup. Ferrari has confirmed that petrol and hybrid models will continue to be offered. This is a measured approach, one model to test the EV waters without abandoning tradition. Ferrari previously ruled out building a full EV entirely, opting for hybrids instead. The Luce marks a clear shift from that earlier position.

Rivals Are Running the Other Way From EVs

While Ferrari is entering the EV space, its rivals are quietly stepping back. Lamborghini has abandoned all-electric plans entirely, moving to hybrid models instead. Low demand for high-end luxury EVs was cited as the main reason. Porsche has also scaled back its EV ambitions significantly. Weak sales in China and US tariffs have hurt Porsche’s EV numbers badly. Ford and Volkswagen have doubled down on petrol cars in key markets. Chinese carmakers producing vehicles faster and more cheaply are adding further pressure on Western brands.

Ferrari’s Shares Are Down But the Brand Stays Exclusive

Ferrari remains Europe’s most valuable carmaker by a significant margin. Its strategy of extreme exclusivity has long shielded it from wider industry pressures. However, Ferrari’s shares have fallen by more than 25 per cent over the past year. A global luxury slowdown driven by inflation has hit demand for high-end goods. Ferrari is not alone in feeling this pressure but it is better placed than most to weather it. The Ferrari Luce electric car could either prove to be a masterstroke or a misstep. Only time, and the market will tell.

We had earlier reported on the Luce being spotted testing before launch.
