The Price Just Changed Everything
The Mini Countryman has always been desirable in India. The quirky British styling. The premium badge. But as a fully imported vehicle, it always sat at a price point that kept most buyers at a respectful distance. That distance has just shortened considerably. The Mini Countryman C has been launched in India at Rs 47.50 lakh, ex-showroom and it is being locally assembled at BMW Group’s facility in Chennai. That single fact Made in Chennai is what makes this launch different from every Countryman that came before it.
A Meaningful Step for BMW Group India
The local assembly of the Countryman C at the Chennai facility is not just a pricing strategy it is a statement about BMW Group India’s manufacturing commitment. The Countryman C is built on the UKL2 platform, the same front-wheel-drive architecture that underpins the BMW X1, which is also assembled in India. Sharing a platform with the X1 means component supply chains are already established. Manufacturing processes are already understood. The result is a more competitively priced product without a compromise in build quality. Thomas Dose, Managing Director of BMW Group Plant Chennai, described the local production as a major operational milestone for the brand.
The Exterior Bigger, Bolder and Properly Upright

The third-generation Countryman is a noticeably more grown-up vehicle than its predecessor. The overall proportions are more upright and squared-off giving it a stronger road presence than the softer, rounder earlier generation. Body surfacing is cleaner and sharper. Prominent wheel arches add visual width. The front features the brand’s distinctive octagonal grille with a champagne-finish surround the same champagne treatment extends to the front and rear skid plates and even the Mini logos and Countryman badge.
Adaptive LED headlamps are fitted up front. Matrix LED tail-lamps sit at the rear. Customisable DRL signatures allow owners to personalise the vehicle’s light display a distinctive touch. The Countryman C measures 4,447mm in length, 1,843mm in width and 1,661mm in height. Ground clearance stands at 190mm. 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels are fitted. Five exterior colour options are available “British Racing Green, Smokey Green, Nanuq White, Slate Blue and Chilli Red “each available with a “contrasting roof finish”.
Inside a Circular Screen and a Surprisingly Practical Cabin

Step inside the Countryman C and Mini’s minimalist cabin philosophy is immediately clear. The centrepiece is a 9.4-inch circular OLED infotainment touchscreen a design signature that manages to feel both retro and genuinely modern at the same time. It runs Mini’s Operating System 9, supports voice commands through the Personal Assistant and integrates most vehicle functions into a single interface. The dashboard and door panels use a textile finish created through a specialised knitting process that gives the interior a tactile, premium quality. Electrically adjustable JCW Sports seats come finished in Vescin upholstery up front. Powered front seats with a massage function for the driver are among the comfort highlights.
The rear seat arrangement is genuinely practical for a vehicle of this class. Rear seats can slide by up to 130mm and recline by up to 25 degrees. Boot space stands at a useful 505 litres expanding to 1,450 litres with the rear seats folded flat. A 60-litre fuel tank supports longer range between fill-ups.
Features That Go Well Beyond the Price Tag

The equipment list on the Mini Countryman C is extensive for its price bracket. A head-up display,“Harman Kardon 12-speaker audio system, 360-degree camera, panoramic glass roof, wireless phone charging, parking assist and a full ADAS” suite all come as standard. ADAS functions include front collision warning, lane departure warning, attentiveness assist, active pedestrian protection and reversing assist. Connected car technology, ambient lighting and over-the-air software update capability are also included.
Mini Digital Key Plus allows a compatible smartphone or smartwatch to function as the car key. Eight selectable Mini Experience modes alter ambient lighting, graphics and cabin soundscapes depending on the driver’s preference. The centre console features Mini’s signature Toggle Bar physical controls start-stop, gear selection, parking brake and drive modes are all accessible without going through the touchscreen. A dedicated wireless charging area sits below the console. It is a well-considered, layered feature package.
The Engine Punchy Enough, Efficient Too

Under the bonnet of the Countryman C sits a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 156hp and 240Nm of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox sends power exclusively to the front wheels. Mini claims a 0-100kmph time of 9.0 seconds and a top speed of 212kmph. Fuel efficiency is claimed at 15.92kpl. The engine is similar in layout to the BMW X1 sDrive18i though the Countryman C carries a higher state of tune. It is not a performance powertrain but it delivers the kind of brisk, responsive character that Mini buyers expect from the badge. The more powerful 300hp Countryman JCW All4 remains available as a fully imported CBU option for buyers who want significantly more performance.
Safety Five Stars and a Full ADAS Suite
The Countryman C has secured a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating. On board, “Dynamic Stability Control, Brake Assist, ABS, Cornering Brake Control, tyre pressure monitoring, multiple airbags and an integrated emergency spare wheel“ all come as standard. The ADAS suite adds active safety layers that go beyond the passive protection offered by the airbag and structural safety package. For buyers making a family vehicle decision which a Countryman very often is these credentials matter as much as the design and the features list.
Where It Sits in the Market
At Rs 47.50 lakh, the Countryman C enters a segment occupied by the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA and Audi Q3. Sharing a platform and assembly plant with the X1 creates an interesting internal dynamic for BMW Group India. But the Countryman offers something neither the X1 nor its German rivals can a genuinely distinctive brand personality, a design language unlike anything else in the segment and the kind of ownership experience that tends to generate loyal repeat buyers. Bookings are open across Mini dealerships nationwide. Deliveries have already commenced.
