A Sedan That Has Waited For This Moment
There is something quietly satisfying about watching a familiar car grow into a completely new version of itself. The Lexus ES has done exactly that. Lexus India has launched the eighth generation ES 350h, and it arrives as a bigger, bolder, and far more technologically loaded machine than the one it replaces. Prices start at Rs 66.10 lakh for the Exquisite variant, while the range-topping Luxury trim comes in at Rs 71.80 lakh, both ex-showroom. Bookings have already opened, and for Lexus, this is more than just another model year update.
Joining Its Electric Sibling on the Price List

This hybrid sedan does not arrive alone into the market. It joins the all-electric ES 500e, which Lexus introduced back in March, and together the two form what the brand calls a multi-pathway electrification strategy. In simpler words, Lexus wants buyers choosing between a hybrid and a full electric car, without leaving the ES badge at all. Both versions will continue to be manufactured locally in India, a strategy Lexus had already committed to with the previous generation.
Bigger in Every Direction That Matters

Compared to the model it replaces, the new ES has grown across the board. The wheelbase is longer, the body is wider, and the stance sits noticeably taller than before. Lexus says these changes translate directly into a roomier cabin and a smoother ride. Ground clearance has also been increased specifically with Indian roads in mind, which should count for something on the daily commute as much as the arrival at a five-star porch.
Five Quick Highlights From the Launch
- Lexus ES 350h price starts at Rs 66.10 lakh, ex-showroom, going up to Rs 71.80 lakh.
- Two variants are on offer: Exquisite and Luxury.
- The hybrid powertrain produces a combined output of 247hp.
- The sedan is built on the TNGA GA-K platform, shared with the ES 500e.
- Lexus is offering an 8 year or 2,00,000km warranty on the vehicle and hybrid battery.
Design Language Borrowed From a Concept Car

Under the skin, the new ES follows what Lexus calls its “Provocative Simplicity” design philosophy, a theme first previewed on the LF-ZC concept car. On the road, this translates into a cliff-face nose, a coupe-like sloping roofline, and sharp creases running along the body. There is no traditional spindle grille here. Instead, twin L-shaped LED signature lights sit at both the front and rear, connected by a light bar that spells out the Lexus name at the back. Buyers get six exterior colours to choose from, including two new shades called SOU and Sonic Copper.
The Hybrid Heart of the Matter
Power comes from a newly developed 2.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid setup, paired with an electronically controlled continuously variable(CVT) transmission. The petrol engine alone makes 186hp, while the electric motor chips in with its own contribution from a lighter, more compact battery pack. Together, the system delivers a combined output of 247hp, and Lexus claims a 0-100kph sprint time of 7.7 seconds. It is not a car built for drag strip bragging rights, but the numbers suggest it will not feel slow either.
A Cabin Built Around the Driver

Step inside, and the ES follows Lexus’ Tazuna cockpit layout, designed to keep everything within easy reach of the driver’s eyes and hands. A large 14-inch touchscreen dominates the dashboard, paired with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Physical switches are deliberately kept to a minimum. In their place, Lexus has introduced what it calls the world’s first Responsive Hidden Switches, controls that stay invisible until the moment you actually need them. It is a small detail, but one that says a lot about how far cabin design has come.
Comfort and Safety, Both Well Covered
The features list reads long. A Mark Levinson premium sound system, heated and ventilated front seats, three-zone climate control, and a head-up display all make the cut. On the safety side, the ES 350h comes with radar-guided cruise control, lane tracing assist, blind-spot monitoring, and ten airbags as standard. The Luxury variant additionally gets a driver monitoring system, watching for early signs of fatigue behind the wheel.
Where This Leaves the Competition
The Lexus ES has traditionally squared up against the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the BMW 5 Series, and the Audi A6. What sets it apart this time is the complete absence of a conventional petrol or diesel engine option. Every ES sold in India from here on will either be a hybrid or fully electric, a stance none of its German rivals have taken yet. Whether that becomes a genuine talking point in showrooms or simply a footnote in a spec sheet remains to be seen, but it is a bold line to draw in a segment that has always played it safe.
