The XL7 has Been Shown. The Maruti Suzuki XL6 Facelift is Now a Matter of Time.
There is a reliable pattern when it comes to Maruti Suzuki and Suzuki’s global products. What appears on the Indonesian XL7 tends to find its way to the Indian XL6 within a reasonable window. Suzuki has now released the first official image of the facelifted XL7 ahead of its global debut at the 2026 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show on July 29. No announcement has been made about an Indian launch yet. But the writing is clearly on the wall. The Maruti Suzuki XL6 Facelift is expected to follow the XL7’s reveal and could arrive in Indian showrooms around the festival season later this year.
What the New XL7 Looks Like

Based on the official image released by Suzuki, the facelifted XL7 carries exterior changes. The front end has been thoroughly revised. A new chrome grille with black inserts replaces the previous unit, giving the nose a sharper and more premium look. The headlamp units have been redesigned alongside this. The front bumper gets a new layout with revised fog lamp housings. Along the sides, a new set of alloy wheels adds a fresher visual character. At the rear, smoked LED tail lamps are the most immediately noticeable change, lending the MPV a sportier appearance than the outgoing model. It is a coherent set of changes that modernises the exterior without completely departing from the vehicle’s familiar proportions.
Inside, Features Are Expected to Expand

The interior of the facelifted XL7 is not expected to undergo a complete redesign. However, an expansion of the feature list is anticipated for the Indonesia-spec model, and by extension for the Indian Maruti Suzuki XL6 facelift as well. Ventilated front seats are expected to be added, a particularly welcome feature for Indian summer driving conditions. An upgraded 360-degree camera system and an improved head-up display are also among the anticipated additions. A larger infotainment touchscreen with better connected car features is expected for the Indian market specifically.
These additions collectively address the areas where the current XL6 has been feeling the pressure most from rivals, particularly the Kia Carens Clavis which has set a high benchmark for feature content in this segment.
The CNG Tank Update Could Be the Most Practical Change
One of the most significant expected updates on the XL6 facelift in India has very little to do with style or screen size. It concerns the CNG fuel tank. The current CNG version of the XL6 uses a conventional boot-mounted CNG cylinder, which reduces luggage space considerably and creates practical inconvenience for family buyers. An underfloor CNG tank layout, first introduced on the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, is expected to be carried over to the XL6 facelift. The same underbody tank configuration is also expected on the upcoming Brezza facelift on July 23, 2026.
If this change makes it to the XL6, the boot space freed up would improve the practical case for the CNG variant, particularly for families who need both the running cost benefit of CNG and the carrying capacity that a six-seat MPV promises
Engine and Gearbox Stay the Same

No mechanical changes are expected under the bonnet. The facelifted XL7 and the India-bound XL6 facelift are both anticipated to retain the familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated K15C four-cylinder petrol engine producing 103hp and 136Nm of torque. A five-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed torque-converter automatic will continue as the transmission options. The CNG version is also expected to continue alongside the petrol variants.
The 1.5-litre engine in its current form is a reliable, well-understood unit that has served the XL6 and its Ertiga sibling well across their product lifecycle. At this stage of the product’s life, a powertrain revision would be unnecessary and likely counterproductive from a cost perspective.
The Competition is Not Standing Still

The timing of this update is not accidental. The Kia Carens Clavis has been steadily expanding its equipment list and continues to challenge the XL6 from a features and space perspective. The Toyota Rumion, the higher variants of the Maruti Ertiga and a few other contenders also occupy the same consideration set for Indian family buyers. The Maruti Suzuki XL6 Facelift is expected to land during the festival buying season, which is the most competitive window in the Indian automotive calendar.
What to Watch For on July 29
The GIIAS debut of the Suzuki XL7 on July 29 will bring the full picture of what the facelift includes, particularly on the interior and feature front where official confirmations are still awaited. Once the global reveal is complete, a clearer timeline for the India launch is also likely to emerge. Maruti Suzuki has consistently brought XL7 updates to the XL6 in India and there is no reason to believe this cycle will be any different. Festival season buyers who are considering an MPV in this segment would be well served to wait and see what the XL6 facelift brings before committing to a purchase.
