Nissan Is Back, The Tekton Is Coming on July 9
Three years is a long time in the SUV game. Nissan knows that. The brand quietly discontinued the Kicks when it exited the midsize SUV space in 2023. Now, the Japanese carmaker is ready to make some noise again. Nissan will officially unveil the Tekton in India on July 9, 2026.
The Duster’s Sibling, But With Its Own Identity
Let’s get the obvious part out of the way first. Tekton shares its platform with the Renault Duster. Both cars come from the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The Nissan Tekton is essentially a rebadged Renault Duster, but with a distinct exterior design inspired by the flagship Patrol SUV.

That Front Face Means Business
Nissan didn’t just slap its badge on a Duster and call it done. The Tekton’s front end draws inspiration from the Patrol, Nissan’s flagship SUV. LED headlamps and connected DRLs are part of the package. A wide grille with chrome strips and a dual-tone bumper complete the bold front look. The side profile stays close to the Duster. Flared wheel arches and black door trim give it that rugged SUV feel. Unique alloy wheels, expected to be 18-inchers, set it apart further. At the rear, connected LED tail-lamps and a roof spoiler make a strong statement.
Two Engines on Offer, A Third Might Join
On the powertrain front, two options have been confirmed. The base engine is a 1.0 litre turbo-petrol making 100hp and 166Nm. The stronger option is a 1.3 litre direct-injection turbo-petrol, producing 163hp and 280Nm. Both come with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. The 1.3 litre unit also gets a 6-speed DCT option.

The Cabin: Familiar Comfort, Fresh Look
Nissan is expected to give the Tekton a distinct interior layout. However, the feature set will likely mirror the Duster. That means a 10.1 inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Also expected is a 10.25 inch digital cluster, panoramic sunroof, wireless charger, and dual-zone climate control. Ventilated front seats with 6-way power adjustment add a premium touch.
Price and the Crowd It Will Face
Pricing is expected to be in line with the Duster. The Duster currently starts at Rs 10.49 lakh and tops out at Rs 18.49 lakh. Expect the Tekton to sit in a similar range, possibly with a slight premium for the different styling. The competition is fierce. The Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, Maruti Grand Vitara, Invicto, Tata Sierra and Curvv, and Citroen Aircross and Basalt – all sit in the same space. Nissan has its work cut out. But if the Tekton delivers on its bold looks and solid feature list, July 9 could mark a meaningful comeback.
