There are motorcycles that are built to be ridden. And then there are motorcycles that are built to be owned. The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 Rough Crafts limited edition sits firmly in the second category, while quietly being very much capable of the first. Just 100 individually numbered units will be produced worldwide. Twenty five of those are headed to India. Registrations opened on July 15 and the India drop is scheduled for July 30 at 7pm IST, through the Royal Enfield App and the company’s website. The first 25 customers to complete their purchase during that window will secure one. At Rs 5.75 lakh, ex-showroom, this is not the most affordable way to own a Shotgun 650. But it may well be the most memorable one.
The Story Behind the Collaboration
The Shotgun 650 Rough Crafts edition did not arrive without context. Its origins trace back to EICMA 2025, where Royal Enfield and Rough Crafts jointly unveiled the Caliber Royale, a one-off custom motorcycle built on the Shotgun 650 platform. The Caliber Royale subsequently appeared at Motoverse 2025, generating considerable attention from enthusiasts and collectors. The response to the custom was clearly strong enough for Royal Enfield and Rough Crafts to take things a step further. The limited-edition production model draws directly from the Caliber Royale’s design philosophy while making it accessible, in the most exclusive sense of that word, to a small number of buyers worldwide.
Rough Crafts is a Taiwanese custom motorcycle builder with a well-established international reputation. Founded by Winston Yeh, the studio has built a following through its distinctive black and gold aesthetic and its work on various global platforms. The partnership with Royal Enfield brings that aesthetic to a factory-built product for the first time.
The Design Is Where the Money Goes
Mechanically, this motorcycle is unchanged from the standard Shotgun 650. The engine, the chassis, the suspension, the braking hardware, all of it carries over without modification. What has changed, significantly, is everything the eye lands on. The bodywork is finished in a combination of Gloss Jet Black and Matt Stealth Black, a pairing that creates an interesting tension between surface and light. Hand-finished gold leaf stripes with subtle grey detailing are applied across the body. A cast brass Rough Crafts collaboration badge sits on the motorcycle as a permanent mark of the partnership. The fuel tank carries individual numbering for each of the 100 units.
The fork inner tubes are finished in gold, contrasting sharply with the dark bodywork. The alloy wheels are contrast-cut, adding a further detail layer. Black bar-end mirrors are fitted. The seat is finished in quilted leather. Each element has been chosen with deliberate care. Nothing here feels like an afterthought.
A Signed Artwork Comes With Every Motorcycle
Every buyer of the Shotgun 650 Rough Crafts edition will also receive a numbered artwork featuring a sketch of the original Caliber Royale custom. The artwork is signed personally by Winston Yeh, the founder of Rough Crafts. It is the kind of addition that elevates a purchase into a collectible moment. The signed artwork connects the production motorcycle to the one-off custom that inspired it, creating a direct link between the factory-built limited edition and the creative process behind it. For collectors, this detail matters considerably.
The Engine and What to Expect on the Road
The 648cc parallel-twin, air and oil-cooled engine continues without change. It produces 47hp and 52.3Nm of torque, sent to the rear wheel through a six-speed gearbox. The Shotgun 650 has always had a distinctive character among Royal Enfield’s 650cc lineup, with an exhaust note and riding posture that sets it apart from the Classic 650 and Super Meteor 650. The Rough Crafts edition retains all of that character. What the buyer is paying the premium for is the visual presentation, the exclusivity of the numbered plaque and the collaborative provenance of the motorcycle. Those are real and tangible things in the collector motorcycle world, even if they add nothing to the dyno sheet.
The Global Drop Schedule
Royal Enfield has divided the 100 global units across four regions of 25 motorcycles each. The sales are being conducted as drops, where the first buyers to complete their purchase in each window secure the motorcycles. The schedule is as follows:
Europe, Middle East and Africa drop on July 27 at 7pm CET.
Americas drop on July 28 at 10am EST.
APAC drop on July 29 at 7pm AEDT.
India drop on July 30 at 7pm IST.
Registrations for India are open between July 15 and July 30 through the Royal Enfield App and the brand’s website.
Is the Premium Worth It
The standard top-spec Shotgun 650 is priced at Rs 4.16 lakh, ex-showroom. The Rough Crafts limited edition costs Rs 5.75 lakh. That is a premium of approximately Rs 1.59 lakh. What does that money buy? A unique paint and finish package that cannot be replicated on the standard model. A cast brass badge. Individual numbering. Gold-finished fork tubes. A quilted leather seat. Contrast-cut wheels. A signed artwork. And most significantly, the knowledge that only 25 people in India own the same motorcycle. Whether that combination justifies the premium is a personal calculation. For the collector buyer who understands the value of provenance and scarcity, it very likely does.
What This Collaboration Says About Royal Enfield
The Shotgun 650 Rough Crafts edition is not Royal Enfield’s first collaboration with a custom builder. The brand has a well-established history of working with independent studios through its programme that celebrates motorcycle customisation. What makes this particular collaboration noteworthy is the decision to bring it to a limited-run production model, complete with factory warranties and the Royal Enfield distribution and service network behind it. Buyers get the creative vision of an internationally recognised custom builder in a motorcycle they can ride regularly, service at any Royal Enfield dealership and insure like any other production motorcycle. That combination is genuinely uncommon in the collector motorcycle space.
