Eleven Years Later, the 2026 Audi Q7 Starts Fresh
Some cars earn the right to carry on. The Audi Q7 is one of them. For eleven years, the second-generation model held its ground against the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE, two of the most formidable luxury SUVs in the world. Now, that car has been replaced. The third-generation 2026 Audi Q7 has been officially unveiled and it brings changes across every dimension. New platform. New design. New interior. Three seating configurations. And a diesel V6. This is not a facelift. This is a full restart.
A Face That Means Business
The most immediate change on the new Q7 is how it looks. The design is noticeably more muscular and upright compared to its predecessor. At the front, a split headlamp arrangement has been adopted slim pixel DRL units sit above, while vertically oriented Matrix LED main lights sit below in gloss black housings. A large grille and a wide honeycomb air dam with a satin silver surround complete the front end. The influence of newer Audi SUVs like the Q3 is clearly visible here.
Around the sides, the profile is clean and well-proportioned. A mildly upswept window line with chrome surrounds, pull-type door handles and slim roof rails keep things elegant. Body-coloured cladding is part of the S-Line package. Standard alloy wheels are 20 inches optionable all the way up to 23 inches. Soft-close doors are fitted as standard, with fully powered door operation available as an optional extra.
At the rear, split tail-lamps with a smoked finish are connected by a slim light bar. A roof spoiler, an illuminated Audi badge, dual exhaust tips and a chunky bumper with gloss black and satin silver trim finish the look neatly.
Inside, Three Screens and a Cabin Worth Sitting In

The interior of the new Q7 follows the direction Audi has been taking across its latest models. A triple-screen dashboard dominates the cabin with the central infotainment display angled towards the driver for easier reach. A new four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of the driver. Wood and leather trim are used generously across the dashboard. The centre console which draws a clear resemblance to the larger Q9 houses dual wireless charging pads, the engine start-stop button, electronic parking brake, a rotary volume knob, drive mode controls, hazard light toggle and a 360-degree camera shortcut.
Ambient lighting is embedded into the door liners and the headrest bases of the front seats. The front seats also get actuators and individual headrest speakers allowing occupants to take phone calls privately without using the main audio system. That is a thoughtful detail.
Other notable features include a panoramic sunroof with optional switchable transparency and illumination, a full ADAS suite, a 22-speaker Bang and Olufsen 4D sound system, connected car technology and electrically adjustable seats throughout.
Three Ways to Configure the Cabin
One of the more interesting decisions Audi has made with the new Q7 is around seating. The outgoing model came as a seven-seater as standard. The new one takes a different approach. The base configuration is now a five-seater. A six-seat layout with second-row captain chairs is available as an option. A traditional seven-seat layout with a third row remains available for those who need it.

Boot space for the seven-seat version stands at 581 litres with all rows in use expanding to 1,980 litres with the rear seats folded. The five-seat version offers 670 litres behind the second row and a maximum of 2,075 litres. The flexibility across three configurations makes the new Q7 genuinely adaptable to different buyer needs from couples who want captain chairs to large families who need a proper third row.
The Engine Diesel, Mild Hybrid and Vegetable Oil
Only one powertrain has been confirmed for the 2026 Audi Q7 at this stage a 3.0-litre mild hybrid diesel V6, available in two states of tune. The base version produces 245hp and 500Nm. The higher-spec version produces 299hp and 630Nm. Both are paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and Quattro all-wheel drive as standard. The mild hybrid system adds up to 24hp and 370Nm during acceleration useful for quick overtakes without demanding extra fuel.
The engine is also compatible with hydrotreated vegetable oil a renewable diesel alternative that Audi claims can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 95 per cent compared to conventional diesel. It is a quiet but meaningful step toward cleaner motoring without requiring any infrastructure change from the driver. Steel spring suspension comes as standard, with air suspension available as an optional upgrade important for those who want the Q7’s ride quality to genuinely compete with the X5 and GLE.
Pricing and When It Arrives

Global order books open this month. Deliveries are scheduled from September 2026. Starting prices for the base 245hp variant are set at €87,900 approximately Rs 96.90 lakh. The 299hp variant carries a price of €90,500 approximately Rs 99.76 lakh. These are European prices and do not reflect what the India-spec model will eventually cost.
An India launch is expected though no timeline has been confirmed yet. Given the Q7’s strong historical performance in the Indian luxury SUV segment, the third-generation model’s arrival here feels like a matter of when rather than if.
What This Means for the Segment in India
The luxury three-row SUV space in India has always been keenly contested. The BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE and Land Rover Discovery Sport all compete for similar buyers. The current Q7 has maintained a loyal following here particularly among buyers who value Audi’s technology packaging at a slightly more accessible entry point than some of its rivals. The new generation raises the quality, technology and design bar considerably. When it does arrive in India, the competition will have a significantly sharper Q7 to contend with.
